Rossendale Radio have supported More in the Room CiC from the beginning.
More in the Room CiC was incorporated on 11 January 2022 and was created to support women and
girls in Rossendale. We have created many events and activities over these few years. Under our
organisation we run several different subdivisions, these are:
- Menopause and More. Working in collaboration with local doctors to provide education and fun
training, activities, and events to support those going through menopause;
- Women in Business. In collaboration with the local lady’s mosque, supporting people to create
their own businesses and side hustles;
- Safer Rossendale. A community safety scheme, allowing anyone to drop into a venue, charge
their phone, access resources and wait somewhere safe whilst needed;
- Anti-spiking campaign. Working in collaboration with the police, creating a campaign to limit
instances of spiking, including training;
- Diversionary activities. We host events during times when people may be struggling. This has
included major sporting events when people might not have wanted to be at home, The Queen's
funeral, and other moments.
Rossendale Radio have been a constant support and part of our marketing campaigns and delivery.
They have:
- Invited us on air to discuss upcoming projects, in a fun, informal interview setting. Allowing us to
share our projects and work, advertise our free events and share with a wider community;
- Created campaigns for us; this was invaluable during the festive season when we created an anti-
spiking campaign;
- Supported our work, by sharing it on their social media, on air and through word of mouth;
- Provided a sounding board with their volunteers to develop our ideas.
They invited us along to their staff meeting, to help us ensure our project was as rounded as possible and support us on our journey navigating the marketing of it.
Due to Rossendale Radio, we have a clear increase in uptake for our projects, spread the word to
a wider audience and created a strong community partnership. Their support has been invaluable and a much-used and appreciated community resource.
On a personal note, when I was due to go on their show one day, I had been struggling, as one of our
projects had got some very negative publicity on social media. This was due to our welcoming of the
transgender community, something we are very proud of. When I arrived at Rossendale Radio, I was visibly upset. A volunteer made me a brew, sat with me, talked through everything and was so incredibly supportive. We then worked collaboratively to use the airtime to discuss any concerns or worries our community might have in an open, non-judgmental way. That volunteer got me through a really tough time.
We wish Rossendale Radio every success in their future endeavours, and we know we will be part of that
journey.
