MARY JOANNA COOGAN
Mary Joanna Coogan is a performer, artist and music buff from Manchester.
She moved up to the valley when she was pregnant with her first baby - and hasn't been able to leave since! She now resides in Waterfoot with her two children and rescue pup.
Mary Joanna has performed in a number of bands and has also written her own music in the past. She has taken a break from music since becoming a mother, but loves to get creative in her spare time. Mary Joanna comes from a family of performers and musicians. Her father, Martin Coogan was the lead singer and guitarist of Manchester band The Mock Turtles. And her uncle is comedy legend Steve Coogan (Alan Partridge -A - Ha!)
Mary Joanna loves alternative music and holds a special place in her heart for indie, folk, psychedelia, dream pop and shoegaze.
You can listen to her excellent music choices every Saturday on the Weekend Brunch Show.
My Musical Moment:
Cocteau Twins - Iceblink Luck - LISTEN
I chose Iceblink Luck because it's one of my favourite songs by one my favourite artists, Cocteau Twins. I have no idea what Liz Fraser is saying when she sings, but it doesn't matter. She is a real angel on earth.
Tame Impala - 'Cause I'm A Man - LISTEN
"Cause I'm a man" is a modern day masterpiece and a landmark when Kevin Parker took a change in musical direction. I don't think I'll ever get bored of listening to this track.
The Shins - Phantom Limb - LISTEN
"Phantom Limb" was my favourite song when I was an awkward teenager. It still holds a special place in my heart. It reminds me of the Beach Boys and the lyrics are so good.
